Bastimentos National Marine Park
Covering 132 square kilometers of reefs, mangroves, beaches, and tropical forest, this national park is the conservation heart of Bocas del Toro and a designated Mission Blue Hope Spot. It protects hawksbill sea turtle nesting beaches, poison dart frog habitat, howler monkeys, and some of the region's healthiest coral reef systems.
Local Tips & Practical Info
Access via guided boat tours from Bocas Town — the park encompasses the Zapatilla Cays, Long Beach, and much of Bastimentos island. Trails around Red Frog offer reliable wildlife sightings (sloths, monkeys, red frogs). Turtle nesting occurs April–October. Stay on marked paths and book with licensed operators to support conservation efforts.
